Simple Breadfruit Chips Recipe

Fried breadfruit chips are tasty fried treats that are a nice substitute for potato fries. To make breadfruit chips, simply cut the fruit thinly and deep fry until golden brown and crispy. Salt and season them and you’ll have yourself a new favorite chip recipe.

Ingredients

  • 600 g breadfruit
  • salt
  • seasoning like black pepper, oregano, paprika, Caribbean green seasoning (optional)
  • water
  • oil for frying

Instructions

  • Cut out the breadfruit stem.
  • Place the fruit stem-side down on a napkin.
  • Leave to drain for an hour.
  • Peel the breadfruit.
  • Cut into quarters.
  • Cut out the center and discard.
  • Rinse and place in salted water.
  • Slice each breadfruit piece into thin chips.
  • Place a large pot on medium heat.
  • Add enough oil for deep frying.
  • Allow to heat up for 5 - 10 minutes.
  • Dry the chips with paper towels.
  • Add the chips to the hot oil.
  • Turn the chips after 2 - 3 minutes to ensure even cooking.
  • Continue turning until the chips are golden brown and crispy (total frying about 10 minutes).
  • Remove breadfruit chips from the oil.
  • Place on paper napkins to drain.
  • Sprinkle salt and your choice of seasoning.
  • Serve hot with dipping sauces.
