Easiest Lavender Tea Recipe (with Dried Lavender)
Enjoy a warm cup of lavender tea after a long day. It is so soothing, calming and can act like a sedative from my own personal experience.
In my lavender tea recipe, I steep dried lavender buds in a tea infuser for 30 minutes before straining, sweetening and serving warm.

Ingredients for lavender tea
You only need two, maybe three ingredients, to make this soothing tea:
- dried lavender buds: I always use organic lavender buds for this recipe – organic everything really. You don’t want to steep flowers, buds, herbs, leaves or any plant containing harmful pesticides and chemicals. Natural and organic is the way to go.
- water: using boiling water reduces the steep time for this tea.
- sweetener: this is entirely optional. I usually enjoy my tea without any sweetener but this one is slightly bitter so I often add a little honey or agave syrup.
Equipment for this recipe
I use a kettle to bring the water to a boil, but a saucepan works just as well. And, from my other tea recipes, I usually use a teapot with infuser when steeping delicate flowers and herbs. The infuser is great if you are an avid tea drinker and makes clean up easy.
What does lavender tea taste like
Lavender tea has strong, pleasant, floral flavors with a slightly bitter and earthy aftertaste, which is remedied by a little honey or your favorite sweetener.
How to make lavender tea
Step 1: Bring water to a boil. I prefer using my kettle for this but you can use a saucepan on medium heat for about 5 minutes. It takes even less time if you are heating water in the microwave.
Step 2: Add the lavender buds to a heat safe jug or a tea infuser.
Step 3: Pour the hot water over the flower buds.
Step 4: Allow to steep for 30 minutes.
Step 5: After the steep time, strain the tea. I usually sweeten it at this point with a spoonful of honey. Serve warm.
Where to buy this tea
You can always skip steeping the loose buds and try lavender in tea bags instead. Here are a couple of my favorites.
Lavender tea benefits
Lavender has sedative properties and so may be able to help with better quality sleep and mood. It is also linked to reducing anxiety and depression. This 2020 study explores these benefits.
