About Me
I’m Ros – a Trinidad-born and Trinidad-based food blogger and Youtuber.
I’ve been blogging about Trini food for a couple years now on my main site: zenhealth.net. But, the original intent of that site was to share quotes, affirmations and other tips for leading a zen and healthy life.
So, I think it’s time to separate the two completely unrelated topics and create a space solely for my Trinidad food recipes and cooking adventures.
My Cooking Journey
I didn’t grow up cooking up a storm in the kitchen… I’ve had to learn many recipes while adulting – usually while calling my mom ten times at each stage to make sure I was doing it properly… The same is true for my mother-in-law.
If you’ve ever asked a Trini mom or aunty how to make something, you know you’ll hear measurements like a handful of this and a pinch of that and just enough for flavor. They don’t measure a thing…
The same is true for instructions. Leave it til it gets brown is probably the most common one I hear. It’s all fun and jokes and food at the end of the day. But it makes following and writing a recipe a little difficult to do.
I’ve actually asked my mom to measure her “handful of flour” to get an exact measurement. Would you believe it was exactly a cup of flour? No joke!
So, I think it’s time to document my cooking adventures and develop fairly reproducible recipes for my favorite Trini and non-Trini food.
The Goals for WeTriniFood
Popular Trinidad foods are not exactly healthy – there are so many fried and sugary dishes. So, I’d like to share healthier recipes using the typical Trini flavors.
I also want to go beyond popular Trinbago recipes and explore the fruits, herbs and herbal remedies used here. There isn’t a lot of information on these and it’s time to change that.
So, the goals for WeTriniFood are to:
- document my personal recipes and cooking adventures
- explore the proven benefits of Trinidad fruits
- research the traditional herbs
- look into common and uncommon herbal remedies used in T&T
Of course, these goals will evolve over time, but they are the original intent for this site.
So, join me in my research and recipe fun.
