Trinidad food is incredible, but there’s nothing quite like the smell of fresh bread, straight out of the oven. It brings me back to childhood, waiting for hot hops with a slice of cheese. I hope these Trinidad bread recipes can give you some nostalgia too.

Or, at the very least, save you from buying bread for a couple of days. Hopefully, it lasts! Hot hops always go quickly in my household.

Anyway, here are some of my favorite Trinidad bread recipes to bake at home. This list is a mix of savory loaves, rolls and sweet breads. There’s definitely something here you can make today.

Ah, the classic! My Trinidad hops bread recipe gives you soft, fluffy dinner rolls with a slight crispy top every single time. These are heavenly, hot out the oven with butter, cheese, ham, jam or just about anything else.

5. Coconut bake

Oh, coconut bake is a staple in my home! It’s simply the best, always soft and has a beautiful, pleasant taste from the coconut and nutmeg. The kitchen really smells amazing when I’m baking a fresh batch.

Of course, you can serve it with saltfish buljol, smoked herring, cheese, eggs, or stir fried veggies.

6. Roast bake

Coconut bake isn’t the only popular Trini bake. There’s roast bake too. In fact, Shaun from Foodie Nation has some fun in the kitchen, demonstrating roast bake made 3 ways – with carrot, pumpkin and coconut. They all look incredible.

7. Whole wheat bread

Okay, my whole wheat recipe isn’t the traditional Trinidad whole wheat bread recipe. But, it’s still a simple, healthy bread that you have to try, especially if you are into seed cycling and interested in packing in more nutrition.

My whole wheat bread has an assortment of walnuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower, sesame and even poppy seeds. It’s one of my hubby’s favorites. And, you can bake it from a cold oven so there’s no preheating necessary.

Sweet Trinidad bread recipes

9. Coconut sweet bread

While coconut sweet bread is a Caribbean Christmas classic, you can enjoy it any time of the year. My eggless coconut sweet bread recipe is actually my mother-in-law’s. She makes it with grated coconut, candied peel, and warm spices like cinnamon and nutmeg. It’s so good!

Tip: chill it before slicing so it doesn’t fall apart. It’s more crumbly when fresh but holds together beautifully after a day or two.

It’s a pretty Christmas bread to try.

11. Banana bread

This banana bread recipe is pretty much foolproof! It’s the perfect way to use up your extra ripe bananas and makes a delightful dessert you can enjoy everyday!

Double and triple the recipe, freeze the extras and give them as gifts too! The recipe is that good!
