Creamy Banana Peanut Butter Smoothie Recipe

If you are a peanut butter and banana fan, you will absolutely love this creamy banana peanut butter smoothie recipe! It’s so, so, so good!

It isn’t overly thick but it’s still an incredible cooldown drink in summer when the weather is super hot outside. Enjoy it as an afternoon thirst quencher or even as a replacement meal for breakfast with some extra protein on the side.

If you love thick, creamy drinks like these, try my peanut punch, soursop juice and barbadine punch too.

Ingredients for banana peanut butter smoothie

  • bananas: ripe bananas work best here. It can be frozen before making the smoothie.
  • peanut butter: I actually used crunchy peanut butter but you can use the smooth version or even your own homemade peanut butter.
  • dates: I used pitted medjool dates and they add a nice subtle sweetness to the drink. If you have dates with seeds, be sure to remove them before using.
  • cinnamon: this powder also adds subtle flavor to the smoothie.
  • milk: while I used low fat dairy milk here you can use full fat or plant based milk like almond milk. Try my cashew milk recipe too and use that for your smoothies.
  • ice: for extra chillness during summer, ha!

Equipment

A blender is needed for making this smoothie. That’s pretty much it.

How to make this banana peanut butter smoothie

There really isn’t much to do prep wise for this recipe. I sliced the bananas and popped them in the freezer for a couple hours. That’s about it for prep work.

Once the slices were nicely frozen, I added all the ingredients to my blender so in went the frozen banana slices, peanut butter, pitted dates, cinnamon powder, milk and ice. Then, everything was blended until smooth.

Serve immediately for a delightfully cold drink. Or chill in the fridge and serve later. It can stay for about 2 days in the fridge.

banana and peanut butter smoothie side shot

When recipe testing, I started with the two bananas and added a little peanut butter, milk and dates at a time and worked up slowly, taste testing along the way. The resulting recipe gave a nice balance of peanut butter and banana where neither outshone the other. I really enjoyed it and I hope you do too!

In total, this made 400 milliliters of the drink. I split it into two 200mL drinks here but you can scale up or scale down the recipe as you see fit.
