Ingredients for this pineapple margarita

  • pineapple juice: I used store-bought pineapple juice for this recipe so it was a bit on the sweeter side. Feel free to substitute for homemade blended and strained pineapple juice made with fresh or frozen chunks.
  • silver tequila: blanco or silver tequila is better for this recipe since it doesn’t affect the color of the cocktail.
  • triple sec: this liqueur compliments the pineapple juice well with its citrus notes.
  • lime juice: the tartness of the lime juice balances the sweetness of the store-bought pineapple juice and triple sec.
  • ice
  • salt: [optional] for lining the rim of the glass.

Equipment

While you don’t need any special equipment for this recipe, a strainer is ideal when squeezing the lime juice and a cocktail shaker would be perfect for a chilled drink.

How to make this pineapple margarita

Prep

The only prep that I did here was to wash and cut the lime before squeezing it to get the juice. That’s pretty much it.

Of course, if you have a fresh, whole pineapple on hand, you can wash, peel, chop into cubes and blend to make the juice. Strain thoroughly and taste test before using it in the drink. The fresh juice can be sweetened before using it and be sure to save some cubes for garnishing the cocktail.

I skipped making my own homemade pineapple juice and opted for the store-bought drink to make it a lot easier.

Bring everything together

I rubbed the lime on the top of the cocktail glass before dipping into some salt. The salt should coat the rim and add a contrasting element to the sweet cocktail.

Next, mix the freshly squeezed lime juice to the pineapple juice, tequila, triple sec and ice. If you are using a cocktail shaker, give everything a nice shake so the ice can chill everything quickly.

Strain the drink and serve in your prepped cocktail glass with the salted top. Serve cold. Garnish with anything from pineapple wedges, lime slices, cherries, or even slices of jalapeno peppers.
