Ingredients for pineapple turmeric ginger shots

  • pineapple: fresh pineapple is ideal here but you can also use unsweetened or frozen pineapple chunks.
  • lemon
  • ginger
  • turmeric: I used fresh turmeric here but if you don’t have any on hand you can substitute with turmeric powder. If you have lots of fresh turmeric, follow my guide on making your own turmeric powder.
  • honey: this balances the sharpness of the ginger but you can use any sweetener you like.
  • black pepper: compounds in black pepper (piperine) help with the absorption of beneficial compounds in turmeric (curcumin).

Equipment

This recipe only makes four tall shots, so a mini blender or smoothie blender will be perfect for blending the pineapple. Of course, you can always double or triple the recipe and use a regular sized blender too. I also used a zester for grating the ginger and turmeric.

How to make these pineapple ginger turmeric shots

Prep everything

For this recipe, I had a fresh pineapple on hand, so I washed, peeled and cut the fruit into chunks before cutting them even smaller. I saved the rest of the pine for other recipes like pineapple chow.

As for the lemon, I washed, cut it into half and squeezed one side to get about a tablespoon of juice. If your lemon half doesn’t provide enough juice, try cutting another wedge and squeezing. Keep the rest of the lemon for other ginger shot recipes.

Lastly, I personally prefer to wash, peel and grate the ginger and turmeric. You don’t have to peel or grate them but I like to do it. That’s basically all you need to do for prep.

Blend and serve

All that’s left to do is add the prepped pineapple, lemon juice, ginger, turmeric, and honey to the smoothie attachment of my blender and blend until smooth.

I like pouring the drink into my tall shot glasses and topping each one with some black pepper (remember it helps with absorption). You can also chill in the fridge before having them. They stay really well for 2 to 3 days in the fridge.
