Ingredients for ginger turmeric shots

  • ginger
  • turmeric: fresh turmeric is always ideal but you can substitute with a teaspoon of turmeric powder. By the way, if you bought a bunch of fresh turmeric, try making your own turmeric powder with my guide.
  • lemon: adds a mild, citrusy taste to the shot.
  • honey: mellows out the spiciness and earthiness of the ginger and turmeric.
  • coconut water: this often contains some minerals which add to the overall benefits of the shot. You can substitute with regular water if you like.
  • black pepper: like I mentioned before, black pepper has piperine which helps with the absorption of curcumin in turmeric.

Equipment

I usually make small batches of ginger shots, so I often use a mini blender or smoothie blender. This particular recipe makes about 5 tall shots.

You can make larger batches with a regular sized blender and freeze them in ice blocks if you like.

Since I prefer peeling and grating the ginger and turmeric for my shot recipes, I also used a zester here.

How to make these ginger turmeric shots

Prep ingredients

Usually, I wash, peel and grate the ginger and turmeric. It really isn’t necessary but I like doing it to make sure I am using exactly a tablespoon or teaspoon. Grating helps me get my measurements right!

I also wash, cut and squeeze half a lemon for the juice.

Blend everything together

All that’s left to do is add the ginger, turmeric, lemon juice, honey and coconut water to a smoothie cup or mini blender and blend until smooth.

I typically pour the drink into tall shots and sprinkle some black pepper on top before leaving them to chill in the fridge. The shots can stay for about 2 days in the fridge. That’s it! So simple.
