Ingredients for limoncello cocktail

  • limoncello: I used a wonderful limoncello brand that contained alcohol, but you can swap for a non-alcoholic one.
  • lemon: fresh lemon is best but you can substitute with store-bought lemon juice.
  • tequila: silver tequila works best here and doesn’t affect the color.
  • syrup: I used simple syrup and you can make your own using this homemade simple syrup recipe. I did 1/3 cup of water and 1/3 cup of white sugar and had extras to make a total of 3 cocktails. Scale up for more!
  • ice: great for keeping everything chilled.
  • garnish: use salt or sugar for the rim, lemon slices, lemon peel, and mint sprigs.

Equipment

You don’t really need anything special to make this recipe, though I did use a strainer when squeezing the lemons and my fun cocktail set for measuring the ingredients and shaking the drink with ice.

How to make this limoncello cocktail

Prep

If you are making your own simple syrup, add equal parts of sugar and water to a small saucepan on medium heat. Stir occasionally until the sugar dissolves fully and allow to boil for about 5 minutes. Turn off the heat and leave to cool down before using in the cocktail.

As I mentioned before, I made syrup with 1/3 cup each of water and white sugar and it made about 3 cocktails.

Besides the syrup, I also washed, sliced and juiced the lemon and strained the juice.

I rubbed the lemon on the rim of the cocktail glass before dipping it in salt. You can use sugar too. Oh, and I sliced another lemon for the garnish but this is all optional.

That’s pretty much it for prep.

Make the cocktail

I added the lemon juice, syrup, tequila and limoncello to my cocktail shaker with ice. After giving it a good shake, I poured it into a prepped martini glass and served immediately.

You can scale up the recipe to make more cocktails for brunch, girls night in, or get togethers. It stays in the fridge really well for 2 days or so.
